Rooted in Christian Values
As a Catholic school, we embrace Christian values. The fruits of the Spirit are “love, joy, peace, perseverance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22). We want all our children to learn and grow in these values as an intrinsic part of their classroom experience. To prepare them for academic, spiritual, and vocational success, we focus on the following key areas:
Creative Thinking: We allow hands-on exploration in the arts, music, creative writing and core subjects that allow students to develop their God-given individual abilities in ways that engage all their senses.
Analytical Thinking: Programs such as the Odyssey of the Mind STEM competition, where out-of-the-box thinking builds hands-on skills and confidence.
Technological Literacy: Every upper elementary and middle school ICCS student has a laptop and uses it not only for classroom assignments but to create presentations, reports, and our annual student yearbook. Our lower elementary students utilize iPads. A computer lab is available for all students.
Curiosity and Lifelong Learning: We teach students to love knowledge and learning for its own sake, by engaging their curiosity in reading, science, current affairs, and local efforts such as the Scidmore Park Zoo and the food bank.
Our school knows that we are educating our children to be productive members of the community, but even more important, preparing them for eternal life.
Early Childhood 6 weeks to 5 years old
Curious Wonders
6 weeks to 36 months
A safe, nurturing environment for the youngest of God’s learners to receive loving, consistent care focused on each child’s natural schedule.
A strong emphasis is placed on providing opportunities to participate in age-appropriate activities to build relationships, feel secure, and develop confidence as they transition from infants into inquisitive toddlers.
Beginning Learners PK3
3 years old
A classroom for the child who is experiencing God’s world for the first time. The focus is on encouraging independence, curiosity, and social-emotional growth. Children participate in age-appropriate activities that promote language, early literacy, problem-solving, creativity, and physical development.
Daily routines include free play, structured learning experiences, outdoor play, meals, rest time, and opportunities to practice self-help skills.
Young Explorers PK4
4-5 years old
A warm, joyful beginning to school life. A classroom that promotes learning through play and exploration allowing for excitement through discovery. Teaching the whole child, mind, body, and soul.
Children participate in a balanced daily schedule that includes circle time, prayer, literacy and language activities, early math and science exploration, art, music, dramatic play, outdoor play, and small- and large-group learning experiences.
Elementary & Middle K-8
Lower Elementary
Foundations
Strong foundations in reading, writing, math, and faith. Students build real academic independence while growing in character every step of the way.
- Daily instruction in reading, writing, and math alongside science, social studies, and religion
- Extra support available through our Title I reading tutor
- Growing independence: chapter books, multi-step math, first research projects
- iPads in the younger grades, personal laptops by upper elementary for presentations and reports
- Daily prayer and weekly Mass woven into the school day
Upper Elementary
& Middle
Preparation for high school
Leadership, responsibility, and preparation for high school.
Coursework grows more rigorous as students take on real ownership of their learning and their community.
- Academic preparation for high school placement tests and beyond
